When I was growing up, my mom knew she was always in the Top 10 of moms. Okay, I have a confession: There were about 9 women whose lives she could vividly see on a daily basis-- The 5 women who worked with her at the beauty shop and the 4 who lived on our street. No matter what she was struggling with as a mom, as a wife, as a woman... she was still in the top 10!
But as moms today, in less than 5 minutes, we can compare ourselves to thousands of other women all over the world through social media. We get to see their perfectly crafted toddler activities, flawless post-baby bodies, magazine-ready homes, and always-smiling little ones. Top 1,000 may not even seem possible, much less guaranteed. And those days we feel like we're finally inching towards the top, someone is there showing us how they can do it better.
Mama, this week as we are celebrating Mother’s Day, the greatest gift I can give you is a little TRUTH: It’s time to stop comparing your life to the ones we see on social media and start believing this fact:
There is no better mama on the planet for that baby than YOU!
Your sweet girl isn't looking for that mom with the more perfect abs when it’s mealtime, she just wants to eat with YOU! Your baby boy isn't wishing for a more perfectly decorated home when he sees your couch, he just wants to curl up on YOUR lap in it and feel YOU! They aren’t asking for the most perfectly curated activity when they bring you their toys, they just want to play with YOU!
This is your reminder that you aren’t hanging in the Top 100. You aren’t making it in the Top 10. You are the BEST for those babies. You were made for this!
Yep, YOU are #1!
Before I go, I just want you to hear that you are seen. You are greatly valued. You are the ONE for that sweet baby (or babies). May your cup be so overflowing that it pours out to those around you.
